news.

wednesday 20th august

Again, sorry for the lack of updates over the past couple of months.  We have a new release out on Monday which is the long awaited M S Thomason - I Am Your Son 7".  It's the second in our 7" series and is a stunning piece of work from MST.  There's only 200 copies so you'll need to be quick.  You can pre-order the record now from the shop section of the website, and it will be sent out to you the day after release.

We have more releases in the pipeline but more about them soon.

A quick note as to what everyone is up to... Herzoga have just completed their tour with Who Owns Death TV which went extremely well.  They will be back on the road in the new year after they've recorded some more songs.  Here's To The Atom Bomb have just had one of their tracks from the EP remixed, check out their myspace for a link to where you can hear it.  Ox Scapula are currently lying low but will have a new record and a tour in early November.  They also play their first gig in a while at the October Wrongpop.  Truckdriver Jnr also play their first gig for ages on 27th August at Harrys Bar, Stoke with Humanfly, Red Stars Parade and Space Witch.

tuesday 3rd june

It's been a while since I've written one of these as we've been incredibly busy.  Firstly, thanks to all who attended the gig we put on on Sunday and thanks to all the bands for playing.  It was a brilliant night.  Our next gig is quite soon, Friday 20th June.  It's going to be a bit of a different vibe to usual.  All the details are on the gigs page.

Our 5th (Here's To The Atom Bomb EP) and 6th (Ox Scapula 7") releases are now out and available.  You can order them directly from this website or our myspace and we are currently in the process of getting them stocked in the independent record shops around the country.  Both bands are playing and are after dates at the moment, so get in touch if you'd like to put either of them on.

Over the summer we will be getting on with our 7" series.  We have releases in the pipeline by M S Thomason (Stoke), Hyena (Glasgow), Sabotage Left (Birmingham), Andy Robbins Trio (Stoke), B>E>A>K (Sunderland) and Herzoga (Stoke), although not necessarily in that order.  All are brilliant bands so if you've not heard them before put their names into myspace and you'll find them.

Herzoga are currently booking for their August tour with Who Owns Death TV.  They only have a couple of dates to fill, preferably southern, so if you'd like to put them on send us or them an email and we'll get it sorted.

We'll see you at The Bandstand on 20th June for some folk, drone, acoustic, experimental action!

saturday 9th april

Firstly, we need to say a few thanks to everyone who made the all dayer a brilliant day on Saturday...

- Everyone at the glebe for their hard work and providing ace food.
- All the bands who played especially winnebago deal who played despite Ben throwing up on a number of occasions and Andy Robbins Duo for playing at around an hours notice.
- Rob, Doog, Jarv for DJ-ing all day long and providing us with ace tunes.
- Rob Chicken for manning the merch and helping us move gear around.
- Steve Dale for lending us his bass cab even though he wasn't playing.
- Chris Shermer for the use of his kit all day.
- And finally everyone that turned up and stuck around all day.

If anyone took any photos or recorded any footage of any of the bands, we'd love to see it.  Just send us an email!

Herzoga have added one of their Maida Vale session recording to their myspace, so if you missed them on Radio 1 last week then you can hear their new tune 'Swetmores' by clicking HERE.

After pressing plant problems, the Ox Scapula 7" is currently being pressed and, fingers crossed, it will be available at the next WLD gig.  This takes place at The Bandstand, Stoke-on-Trent on Wednesday 23rd April.  You can see the flyer by clicking HERE.

Here's To The Atom Bomb will be launching their new EP at the F:A:K:E clubnight at Touch, Stoke-on-Trent on Friday 2nd May.  They will be the first band to play live there so you should go along and bag a copy of their record.

friday 7th march

Hello, we've got a lot going on at the moment so I'll try and update this a bit more often for those who read it.

Thank you to everyone who's bagged a copy of the new Herzoga single so far.  It's been getting some great reviews which should encourage you to get hold of one before they run out!  The main news for Herzoga is that they will be doing a BBC session at Maida Vale for Huw Stephen's show on Radio 1.  They will be recording two songs live at the end of the month which will be played on Huw's show in the following weeks.  This is pretty big news for the boys so we'd like to say congrats!

We're currently preparing 3 new releases.  The Here's To The Atom Bomb EP is nearly ready and should be available to buy around the start of next month all being well.  Around the same time will be the release of the new 7" from M S Thomason.  It's going to be in a nice hand made sleeve and is two stunning tracks of his trademark grimness.  We shall also be filming a video to go with this record, more on that soon.

Finally on the release front we are starting a series of 7" singles.  These records will be in generic handmade sleeves and be very limited due to our limited means.  We have some amazing bands in the pipeline and the first one is going to be the debut release by Ox Scapula.  For those unfamiliar with the band they are ex-members of Centrifuge and Retreat Retreat and a current member of Here's To The Atom Bomb.  They were described in a review as "the grinding klang of Shellac with the atmospheric chimes of Slint" and we're pretty excited to be putting out their first record with them having already played gigs with the likes of This Aint Vegas, Charlottefield, Kong and Spy Versus Spy in their short lifetime.

The other big news this week is that we have confirmed the lineup for the WELIKEDANGEROUSWRONGPOP ALL DAYER!  It'll be taking place at The Glebe, Stoke on Saturday 5th April and the bands playing will be (in no particular order)...

WINNEBAGO DEAL
SHERMER
COVE
ICE SEA DEAD PEOPLE
OX SCAPULA
THIS AINT VEGAS
SABOTAGE LEFT
4 OR 5 MAGICIANS
M S THOMASON
WE FLY SPITFIRES!

The running order will be decided on the day so make sure you get down early to see who you want to see.  There will also be DJ sets from our resident Rob and also helping him out will be Doog.  Food will also be available in the venue and there will be a nice big merch table where you will be able to buy records and all sorts.  For all this we're asking for just £8.00 on the door.  That's like... 80p per band!  Doors will be opening at 2pm and it will be finished before midnight.  It's the first time us and wrongpop have done anything like this so we'd really appreciate your support by coming down and if it goes well we might make it an annual thing or something!

One last reminder, its wrongpop tonight at The Glebe!  Starts at 8.00pm and for £4.00 you've got...

TRUCKDRIVER JNR
THE NOTORIOUS HIFI KILLERS
MAUSKRAMP
STRINGFELLOW HAWK

How good is that?!  We'll see you there!

wednesday 20th february

The new Herzoga is single is now available to buy!  You can get hold of it from this very website or if you prefer to buy things in person, just get down to any welikedanger or Herzoga gig or you can get it from Musicmania, Stoke-on-Trent.  It will be in more record shops around the country very soon.  Thanks to all who turned up to the launch gig on Sunday, we had a really good night.  Herzoga are also playing a last minute support with Glasvegas this coming Saturday at The Sugarmill, Stoke.  Tickets are £6.00 in advance and the doors are at 7.00pm.  We'll also be there with copies of the single, so come and say hello.

thursday 17th january

Right then, new year new stuff to get on with.  Firstly, the new Herzoga single is currently being pressed.  There will be a pre-order starting soon but if you don't want to do that then the first time you will be able to buy it will be at the launch gig.  This is at The Glebe, Stoke on Sunday 17th February along with our mates from Brighton Epideme, ever reliable loud bastards Ox Scapula, and new local spikey types We Fly Spitfires!  DJ Stratosphere will also be bringing his 7 million boxes of wax to entertain you in between the bands as ever.  For more info on this gig, go to the gigs section.  After that the record will be available to buy from the usual places.  There's more details on what's on it in the records section of the site.

We're also planning WLD005 which will be the debut EP by the awesome Here's To The Atom Bomb.  This will be out towards the end of February so keep an eye out.  If you've never heard Here's To The Atom Bomb then think along the lines of bands such as The National, Joy Division, Mogwai, Chameleons.  Brilliantly melodic and reflective vocals with huge walls of guitars and driving bass.  Go to www.myspace.com/bombthepast for more.

Following that, we'll be getting some vinyl on the go.  M S Thomason is currently recording for a 7" and so are Ox Scapula.  We'll let you know what's happening with them all in good time.  M S Thomason is also playing at the next Wrongpop on the 2nd February after pulling out of the last one due to illness.  He's not on the flyer's as they were printed before it was organised but he is definitely playing!

The lineup for the WELIKEDANGEROUSWRONGPOP all-dayer is almost complete.  It's going to be on Saturday 5th April and we'll let you know who's playing as soon as its all sorted.  It's going to be a nice mix of out-of-town and local bands along with food, DJs and a charity raffle.

Finally, Truckdriver Jnr and Ox Scapula have been asked by the thoroughly nice dudes at BBC Subculture to play for them at The Glebe, Stoke a week today on Thursday 24th January.  They will be broadcasting the normal Subculture show from The Glebe from 7pm-9pm and then bands will follow at 9.  See you there!

monday 17th december

Possibly the last news item I'll write before Christmas as the next couple of weeks will be spent purely drinking.

Right, you may or may not know that Wayne is leaving this land on 2nd January to go and live in Japan, just outside Tokyo.  With this in mind, it means that all of our releases will now get a miniature release in Japan.  It's highly unlikely anyone from Japan is reading this but if you are, keep an eye out for anything welikedanger related in the indie record shops of Fujisawa and Tokyo.  We'd also like to take this opportunity to wish Wayne all the best and good luck on the other side of the world.

Secondly, the M S Thomason album has been steadily gaining the critical acclaim it deserves.  If you go to the records section of the site, there's now a press archive for each release which you might be interested to read if you've got some spare time.  If you've not yet bought yourself a copy of Under The Birch Tree then this should convince you its a worthy investment.

M S Thomason is also playing as part of the the BBC Radio Stoke Xmas Special this coming Thursday.  Herzoga are also wrongpopping it up on the show as well as loads of other bands in a kind of Jools Holland fashion but without all the pianoing in between.  Its on from 7pm - 9pm and its 94.6FM or you can listen to it on t'internet at www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/subculture.

To finish off this year, there's a couple of gigs you should be going to...

Wednesday 19th December
The Glebe, Stoke
Iye
M S Thomason
Mountains Became Machines
8.00pm.

Sunday 23rd December
The Sugarmill, Hanley
Andy Gower - Album Launch
7.30pm.

Finally, we'd like to thank everyone who's been involved with anything we've done this year, be it played a gig for us, turned up at a gig, bought one of our releases or helped promote anything we've done.  Between us, welikedanger and wrongpop have brought some amazing bands to town such as This Aint Vegas, Charlottefield, Kong, Bilge Pump, Popular Workshop, Ice Sea Dead People, Cove,  some of whom have never played Stoke before or haven't been seen around here since the by-gone days of the legendary Musicroom nights.  We put them together with our best local bands and created some awesome nights which we will be carrying on in 2008.

We've got lots planned for next year including 4 more releases, the first of which will be the new Herzoga single, so keep your eyes peeled.  Have a good Christmas and New Year.

friday 7th december

We've got lots going on at the moment.  Firstly, we'd like to thank Kong, Ox Scapula and From The Captain for playing our third WLD gig as well as everyone who came down and made it an excellent night.  Also cheers to Rob for an excellent DJ set yet again!

The main news is, we will be releasing the new Herzoga single early next year.  We'll let you know the actual date soon, but keep a few quid in reserve over christmas as you'll need this record in your life!  It'll be a CD single with 3 tunes and the brilliant Dan Hopkins directed video on there just for good measure.  It'll also have awesome artwork by Tony from Cove who designs the wrongpop gig flyers.  If you are still yet to hear Herzoga, then where have you been?  Go HERE and turn the volume up!  They'll be playing lots of gigs round the country in February too, so if you'd like to put them on, give us a shout.

We have more plans in the pipeline for the new year including the WELIKEDANGEROUSWRONGPOP all-dayer in April where we'll have a full day of pretty special bands as well DJ's, food and other stuff.  We'll let you know more closer to the time.

Finally, for those of you down south, our friends Spy Versus Spy and Ox Scapula play together at Camden Barfly, London this Sunday 9th December.  Also playing are Milloy, Tellison and The Computers.  Doors are at 7pm and its about £6.00 to get in. Go down if you live in the big smoke!

Goodbye for now.

tuesday 20th november

A few thank you's need to be dished out for our second we like danger gig.  Firstly to everyone who turned up and made it an excellent night.  Secondly to Mountains Became Machines for filling in for Humanfly at barely 2 hours notice.  Thirdly to Rise To Thunder and Truckdriver Jnr for being mint and finally to our resident DJ Rob for playing ace tunes in between bands.  Our next gig is in just less than 2 weeks!  Details are on the gigs page.  Rise To Thunder have a single out on Future Noise pretty soon,  TDJ still have a few copies of their EP available and Mountains have just released their debut EP which you can hear by going HERE.

In other news, the MSThomason album has recieved a couple of excellent reviews which you can read by going HERE and HERE.

For things going in Stoke this week, see Cardiacs at The Sugarmill TONIGHT and Here's To The Atom Bomb & The Sport at The Old Brown Jug tomorrow (10pm).

friday 26th october

As of today the M S Thomason album is now out.  You can order it directly from us, or you can buy it from Musicmania, Stoke; Virgin Megastore, Manchester; or at any welikedanger! gig or MST gig.  There will also be more stockists to come so keep an eye out.  Matt will also be doing a second live session on BBC Radio Stoke's Subculture show on Thursday 1st November.  Welikedanger! will also be interviewed although we can guarantee we wont be as entertaining as MST.  It starts at 7.00pm and can be found at 94.6FM.

We also have another monster of a gig lined up.  Details are now in the gigs section of the site.  Do yourself a favour and don't miss it. Oh yeah and while we're on the subject, the next wrongpop gig will be pretty special.  It's on Saturday 10th November. Don't miss that either.

sunday 16th september 2007

Sorry for the lack of news lately.  We've been working away quietly putting a few things into place.  The main news is that as well as releasing the next recorded output by M S Thomason, we will first be re-pressing and re-releasing his debut album.  The original Hollow Valley copies are now all gone, but this month or the beginning of next our next release will now be 'Under The Birch Tree' on CD with lovely artwork.  The 7" will then follow in due course.  Keep your eyes peeled for more info and a release date for both records.  In the meantime Matt will be playing the following gigs...

22nd Sept - Stokerockscene Alldayer @ The Rigger, Newcastle (afternoon set).
30th Sept - The Glebe, Stoke
2nd Oct - Dry Bar, Manchester
21st Oct - Free Northern Quarter Festival @ Trof, Manchester.

If you've not seen him live yet, get down to one of those.  There's more to come as well.

friday 10th august 2007

If you were listening to Subculture on Radio Stoke last night you'll now know what our next release is going to be.  We're pretty excited to be able to release M S Thomason's first piece of vinyl.  It's going to be a 7" one side played on guitar and the other side will contain some new material played on piano.  It's going to be out in the coming months and as usual will be lovingly packaged and will also contain a method of listening to the songs digitally.  You really will not want to miss this, so keep checking here for details of when it'll be available.  If you've never heard MST then click HERE to listen to songs from his album.

The Centrifuge album also had some very nice words written about it HERE if you'd like a read.  The record is now sold out but you can listen to and download some of the previously unreleased songs off it by going to the Centrifuge myspace HERE.

monday 30th july 2007

Big thanks at all who attended our first gig on Saturday and thank you to all the bands for playing.  It was an excellent night and we shall be repeating the feat very soon.  You can see photos of all the bands by going to the gigs section and scrolling down a bit.  Keep an eye out on t'internet and around town for flyers of what we've got coming up.

We also have some awesome new releases in the pipeline, all of which will become apparent soon!

One last thing, Truckdriver Jnr had the honour of 'single of the week' on Organ's website.  Organ also released the amazing Herzoga single this month.  We like Organ.  Check them out here:  www.organart.com

wednesday 18th july 2007

If you haven't yet noticed the amended flyer we are pretty chuffed to have the amazing Andy Robbins Trio replacing Morning Sparks on the first welikedanger! gig.  They play jazzed out acoustic folk type stuff like nothing you've really heard before and have the legend that is Doog on drums (ex Spy Versus Spy, Future Adventures, The Wow, Dragon).  Please come down if you can make it,  we might even do it all again if all goes well.

The TDJ EP has picked up another rave review, possibly its best yet.  Rocksound magazine said the following...(they also placed it on the same page as the new Shellac album and gave them both 8 out of 10, which we enjoyed.)

monday 9th july 2007

We're pretty gutted to tell those of you that don't know, our friends Morning Sparks called it a day last week.  We'd just like to say we wish them all well and keep an eye out for new projects from their members. It means they wont be playing our first welikedanger gig but we do have a replacement lined up, once its confirmed we'll let you know.

Also, the Centrifuge album is now well and truly sold out.  Sorry to those who didn't get one.  Some of the songs from it are available for you to hear on the Centrifuge myspace now.

monday 25th june 2007

We did think we'd sold out of the Centrifuge album, but we do in fact have 2 or 3 left.  Thank you to everyone who bought it so quickly.  Sorry to those who didn't, or don't, end up getting one.  We are thinking of ways to at least make the songs available if not the book and DVD.

More importantly, the Truckdriver Jnr EP has been earning excellent reviews of late.  For example...

"Quite how a group this good, have come from out of nowhere this fast, remains unexplained but, if you're a fan of WILL HAVEN or COALESCE or simply can't wait to hear what the end of the universe sounds like, just be glad Truckdriver Jnr got behind the wheel."  - Moderate Rock

"Starting with the prowling menace of an early Ministry record, and them, boom, the band launch into the gonzoid punk-groove of Black Flag playing Bronx tunes, this band are furious, explosive on contact, and astonishing to bare witness to so much anger and energy being displayed with merely instruments as their chosen tools of torture… but this is far from torturous, this is vibrant, explosive music that is full of passion, and deserved of your undivided attention!"  - Subba Culture

"Stoke’s Truckdriver Jnr are a noisy affair. But again the Potteries was responsible for inventing thrash – Discharge were famously the first band ever to take punk and to grind it into a furiously paced attack. Truckdriver though are more refined in tempo but use their guitars as crushing weapons, fuzzed and sharpened up."  - Manchester Music

Like we keep saying, there's not many of these so get one while you can.  You can order it from our shop section for a measly £4.50ppd.

We have another 3 releases up our sleeves at the moment.  They will all be out between now and February.  Goodbye for now.

tuesday 6th june 2007

Hello, welcome to our new website.  Both of our first releases our now available from the shop section of our website, or from Musicmania in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.  There are only 50 copies of the Centrifuge album and 100 copies of the Truckdriver Jnr EP, so be quick.  There will be no re-presses of either record, once they're gone they're gone.

We have our first welikedanger gig planned, go to the gigs section to see details.  It'd be nice to see you there, as we have 3 excellent bands lined up, one of which hasn't played in Stoke since 2003.

Thanks.
